Every year, our dahlia work begins long before you see the finished tubers here with us.

It starts with our colleague Susanne — who can quite rightly be described as more or less obsessed with dahlias.

Each season, Susanne grows around 150 different varieties. She searches everywhere: among small and large growers, through endless scrolling in pursuit of the most unique shapes, colours and expressions. Once the tubers are selected, they are carefully pre-grown in pots before being planted out in raised beds — we’ve lost count, but we believe she’s approaching twenty by now.

After weeks of watering, feeding and care, something emerges that can only be described as a dahlia forest. Tall, low, airy and dramatic varieties grow side by side, quite literally surrounding you as you step inside.

That’s when we arrive to photograph. No name labels are in sight. We simply point — and Susanne delivers instantly: name, height, colour, origin. Like a living dahlia encyclopedia.

Here we don’t just see the dahlias — we truly understand their personalities. How the same variety can behave differently depending on soil, weather, season and care. This is where the need for control stays at the gate.

From this living collection, we carefully select the varieties we love most. Then begins the dialogue with our growers, so we can offer these very dahlias to you.
