Dare to Sow – Hanna Hofman-Bang

For Hanna Hofman-Bang, the garden is a pantry full of possibilities. Through organic growing, biodiversity and a deep love for the soil, she creates a place where vegetables and flowers grow side by side, throughout the season.

Together with her family, she lives on a small farm outside Trosa, high up on a hill surrounded by open fields. Here, hens and cats roam freely between the garden beds and the greenhouse, while sheep and cows graze on the land below — alongside wild visitors such as red deer and moose. A few years ago, Hanna left city life in Stockholm for the calm of the countryside, and today the farm is both her creative space and her growing dream.

“My heart beats a little faster when I get to follow tiny seedlings as they sprout and turn into tomatoes and pumpkins. When I dig my hands into the compost and lift a handful of earthworms.”

Hanna trained in horticulture and ecology at Skillebyholm in Järna, and has since followed a path where food, soil and the joy of growing have always gone hand in hand. Today, she runs Ekobang and works with garden design and gardening, always starting from nature itself. Hanna creates gardens with the site’s own conditions in mind and describes her process as listening to what the place wants to become.

In March 2025, Hanna also released the book Grow Food together with Mimmi Staaf — a warm and inspiring guide for those who want to grow more, rediscover the joy of harvesting their own food, and begin to see the garden for what it truly can be: a pantry full of possibilities.

“The beautiful thing about gardening and growing is that there are no right or wrong ways — there are many ways to do it, and it turns out well anyway.”

In Hanna’s garden, biodiversity and organic thinking are at the heart of everything. She grows with nature as her partner, inviting beneficial insects so that the garden becomes a place where both people and pollinators can find nourishment from early spring to late autumn. For Hanna, everything begins in the soil — by nurturing the earth, she naturally creates both a beautiful garden and flavourful vegetables.

Throughout the season, we follow Hanna’s garden as she grows and tests several of our seeds, sharing her best tips, her joy of growing, and her love for everything that can take root.

And the beautiful thing about gardening and growing, Hanna believes, is that there really are no right or wrong ways. There are many ways to do it — and it will turn out well anyway. It’s mostly about daring to try. Dare to sow. And if nothing sprouts, there is always another chance to sow again.
