The flower fakir is used in the Japanese art of Ikebana, which means "making flowers come to life." It’s about arranging plants beautifully, but also a philosophy and lifestyle—like yoga and meditation—that is gaining increasing popularity in the Western world. Ikebana strives to encourage us to stop, focus, and appreciate. It emphasizes sustainability and minimalism based on thought and feeling. Like the Japanese tea ceremony, Ikebana offers multiple layers of meaning. However, no prior knowledge is needed. Ikebana invites personal creativity and expression within an aesthetic that is perfectly suited to our time. Always. How? Simply choose one or more plants, maybe something you find in the garden, by the roadside, or in the flower shop. It doesn’t need to be much. By sticking a stem or twig into the pins, the plant can stand upright without any other support. This way, the entire plant is showcased. According to Ikebana, we should try to be in the moment, in stillness, and focus. Place the flower frog in a bowl, plate, or wherever you like. It can stand in the center, or perhaps you choose another spot. Experiment. Fill with water. If you use a wider vessel, a beautiful water reflection is created. But a narrower vase could also be your choice. When a plant dies, you can easily remove it and perhaps replace it with another, promoting care and sustainability.
