Lablab (Dolichos) purpureus 'Ruby Moon'
’Ruby Moon’ is a cousin to beans with dark purple staind foliage in its own right. The generous clusters of fragrant purple and amethyst flowers are produced abundantly from midsummer tot he frosty days of autumn. In August it will be a focus point in your garden with hundreds of flowers together with huge flat purple bean pods and colorful foliage into the bargain. The pods and fresh beans can be eaten when boiled very well with multiple changes of the water.

Start the seeds indoors four to six weeks before last
frost. Soak the hard seeds in a glass of water overnight to hasten
germination. Use deep pots and keep them moist. Give them something
to climb on. Plant them outside after hardening off for a week.
