Height: 80-100 cm. The globe-shaped, purple-red flowers sit on sturdy stems and bloom in June. The foliage emerges earlier and wilts before the flower blooms. They can be planted effectively in a perennial carpet of plants like heuchera, hosta, and ferns, which hide the wilting leaves.

Plant the bulbs about 15 cm deep with 10 cm spacing between them in September-October. They thrive in sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. They spread via offsets and seeds and can form large clumps. A great cut flower. Deer-resistant.
