Begonia 'Santa Barbara'

€12,95

Begonia ‘Santa Barbara’, Bertinii boliviensis 'Santa Barbara', is an elegant and richly flowering variety with a long history, appreciated as a container plant for generations. The delicate, bell-shaped flowers range from creamy yellow to pure white with a warm yellow eye, emerging from soft salmon-pink buds on pink-toned stems. The blooms stand out beautifully against the slender, fresh green foliage.

The growth habit is initially upright with sturdy shoots, later developing into a soft, semi-trailing form where the side branches cascade over the edge of the pot. This makes it especially beautiful in pots, window boxes, or hanging baskets where its shape can fully shine. An easy-to-grow and resilient variety that flowers continuously from early summer until the first frosts of autumn.

Over time, the tubers increase in size, so repotting every few years encourages even better growth.

Height: approx. 40 cm
Growth habit: Semi-trailing
Flowering period: June–frost
Position: Sun–partial shade
Quantity: 1 tuber

Plant the tuber indoors Mar–Apr in potting soil, in a pot with drainage holes. Place hollow side up and cover with ~2 cm soil. Keep in a bright window. Keep soil lightly moist until rooted; water more when leaves appear. Water beside the tuber. Shade–part shade. Feed with Zetas organic fertilizer every 2 weeks May–Aug. After frost-free nights, move outdoors in part shade, sheltered from full sun and wind. In autumn, cut back foliage, lift tubers and store dry, cool in a paper bag for next year.
