Papaver commutatum ‘Ladybird’
Spotted Poppy ‘Ladybird’ is an eye-catching poppy that brightens the border with its intense red flowers, each marked with distinctive black spots at the base of the petals. Slender stems lift the blooms above fresh green foliage, creating an airy, natural look reminiscent of summer meadows. Easy to grow, this poppy thrives best in a sunny position with well-drained soil and adds a lively, charming touch to both perennial borders and more naturalistic plantings.
Height: 40–50 cm
Growth habit: Deeply lobed, hairy foliage that dies back after flowering. The seed pods are decorative in winter borders and in arrangements.
Flowering period: June–August
Position: Full sun in well-drained, light soil. Drought tolerant.
Plant spacing: 20 cm
Life cycle: Annual. Readily self-seeds.
Additional notes: Deer resistant and slug resistant. Attractive to butterflies and beneficial for pollinators.
Important - The bare-root plant should be planted as soon as possible after delivery, as the roots are sensitive to drying out. If the ground is frozen, you can plant it in a pot first until it can be moved outdoors. Place the pot in a bright window, preferably in a cooler room.
